The Innovations Edition

A few words from Gary and Cyrus

As we publish this issue of Connections, the weather is warm and we’re finally getting a chance to reconnect with so many.

The last two years have been tough in many ways, but our people have kept us grounded and committed to our mission, our work, and to each other. That’s why the title Connections feels especially appropriate at this time.

This issue has our first-ever innovations theme. We have mentioned innovations previously, but this issue will feature a deeper dive into what we are doing. For well over a year our team has been working at developing a culture of innovation in the firm – essentially a new way to work. Led by our chief technical officer Rob Ioanna, the program has not only been successful within our offices, but also externally via AEC Angels. Read on for details about our investments in and our efforts to promote innovation.

In every issue we focus on sustainability, and that will continue, given the urgency of the climate crisis. To learn about recent developments within the U.S. and the industry, please check out our article on building performance.

If you’re a fan of historic preservation, don’t miss the story about the Hotel del Coronado – a beautiful national landmark in San Diego.

Finally, we continue to cover the most important aspect of our business – our people. You’ll see Q&A with Syska’s DEI consultant, who talks about the critical role DEI plays in the AEC industry. We’ll report on our recent promotions. And you can meet the winners of our inaugural Idea-a-Thon.

You – our partners, business associates, and friends – are also important to us. We thank you for taking the time to read this issue and welcome your interest in our journey. Enjoy!
