Michael Adebanjo

It is with heavy hearts that we remember and honor Michael Adebanjo, whose dedication, brilliance, and tireless work ethic left an indelible mark on all of us. As a licensed mechanical engineer, project manager, and leader of the LA office at Syska Hennessy Group, Michael was more than just a colleague…he was the backbone of our Los Angeles team, a mentor, and a friend. Michael managed many high-profile projects including the start of the Netflix Egyptian Theatre renovation, building improvements at Capitol Records, and many more.

Michael represented the very best of us and our Syska culture. He was a humble but determined and dedicated leader for his team and his clients. His clients were well-served by Michael and he never wavered in delivering a high level service to his clients. They truly appreciated his high integrity and high touch even when he had to give them bad news regarding something they were trying to do but it would not comply with Code or serve them well. He cared for the entire Syska team and all appreciated the extra efforts he put in....including Chick-fil-A breakfast sandwiches for the office!!!!! Michael was always prepared for the work and thinking ahead. He would come in almost every Sunday just to be sure he and his team hit the ground running on Monday morning. I will most miss his positive vibe no matter the stress or situation. Your memory will stay alive with me!

Mike, you were one of the first people I got to know after a Syska Nite Out back when I first started in 2010 and I’m so grateful that I had the privilege of knowing you. It was always clear that you had a passion for life and good vibes, while carrying yourself with poise and determination through challenges, whether in life or work. I will always appreciate that your candor inspired others to rise to your level of professionalism. I will always keep the memories of our chats close to my heart… Late-Nite Gang for Life ❤

Though you are gone from this physical realm, the memory of you will always be vivid in our hearts and minds. You left a lasting impression on all who crossed your path, whether it be a brief encounter or with those you knew for a long time.

You were the best of us…the heart of our Syska LA team. We will continue with your example as our guide on being the best we can be…not just at work, but beyond that…in being a good friend, mentor and human being, while keeping that vibrant spark to let loose, have fun and enjoy the good times with those around us.

We are blessed to have had you in our lives. We will never forget you.

Rest in peace with the Lord, Michael.

Michael Adebanjo was a very special person; the kind you remember meeting for the first time, and every interaction after that. If you were ever fortunate enough to sit down and get to know him on a personal level, you were amazed at his journey through life which ultimately led to his employment with Syska Hennessy in the Los Angeles Office. Michael went out of his way to solve complex engineering problems in creative and cost-effective ways. When the client presented him with a challenging condition, he was relentless in finding the optimal outcome for all parties. He was kind and considerate, thoughtful and highly intelligent, humble and soft-spoken. Whenever I had the opportunity to work with Michael I always felt as if I was his only client. He put all he had to offer into each meeting and engineering solution. I consider myself fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Michael in a professional setting and to know him as a friend. I will always remember Michael fondly. May he rest in peace for all eternity in the presence of our Glorious Creator.

Michael was way more than my co-worker of 20+ years. He was a friend and mentor to everyone. Loved by everyone. He was smart, talented, humble, professional, patient, passionate and funny. He had that rare quality of being able to bring out the best in everyone around him without even knowing it. Such a bright light of a human being. I will miss him, always. Yet, when I think about him, I will have a smile on my face remembering our many chats about life and his love of life. He will continue to inspire me.

Mike was tradition. He was intimidating. He was brilliant. But above all, he was passionate - the heart and spirit of our LA office. His beaming smile and echoing laugh filled every room he entered, leaving an imprint that continues to be deeply felt. Mike’s presence was larger than life, and his absence is felt just as deeply. He is dearly missed.

I joined Syska in 2015 and from the beginning I had a connection with Michael. He was one of few who helped me navigate the waters to understand the Syska way. His looks at my bad jokes or song requests when he DJ'd will forever be imprinted in my mind. The tea runs to the break room where he filled his USC mug with tea and topped it off with milk to the point where he had to carefully walk back to his desk without spilling it is unforgettable. The cars, the Lakers, the mentorship that he gave to the younger engineers are all the good memories that he left behind and I will miss him for it.

Michael was a very passionate and driven PM. He really pushed me at the beginning to triple check my work. Little did I realize that he was prepping me what was to come in my future. He taught me to work diligently and also enjoy myself to celebrate our teams’ successes…especially when it came to karaoke. We had plenty of sing offs at Scarlet Lady after a long day in the Culver City office. His unwavering confidence in singing Michael Jackson songs really gave me the courage to go up and try at least one song during karaoke. Mike, I hope you’re resting easy and singing your heart out up above in the sky.

Michael’s passing is a profound loss for all of us. He was deeply dedicated to the firm, pouring the same energy and passion into his work as he did into everything he loved—like ping pong. I could often hear him from down the hall, grunting and fully in the game, bringing a lively, joyful energy to the office. That same enthusiasm and care extended to his colleagues—he was kind, thoughtful, and always looking for ways to brighten our days, whether by bringing Chick-fil-A breakfast for the team or sharing something he loved with all of us. Michael’s presence, his warmth, and his joy will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us.

I will always remember Michael's enthusiasm and his passion for his work, clients, and teammates. He was an excellent engineer and colleague and was always down to nerd out on a technical subject or just talk about normal life stuff. He was also so generous, bringing in breakfast sandwiches weekly and always keeping the peanut M&M jar fully stocked. And how many times did he lead our office party planning and keep us dancing all night as our resident DJ?! So many good memories to hold in our hearts. You will be missed dearly, Michael. We hope your next journey is peaceful.

I miss the grunt and look of utter disdain you’d give me when I’d cheerfully shout, “GOOD MORNING, MICHAEL!”

I miss the healthy respect you had for processes, customs, and traditions. You kept us close at LAO.

I miss the eye roll you’d give me whenever I brought up CoStar, only for you to later tell me you actually had your own astrology books. You were so proud of your Gemini Sun!

I miss the loud war cry I would hear from the conference room every time you played ping pong (aka whooped someone’s butt in ping pong). I miss the raised eyebrow you’d give anyone who crossed your path before you had your morning caffeine.

I miss your laugh and your scoff. Your smile and your grimace. Your joy and your frustration. You were more than a coworker and friend…you were such a wonderful human. I’m so grateful to have crossed paths and will always carry your spirit close. Thank you for always being you. Rest in power, Michael Adebanjo.
