Awards
The BlackRock 50 Hudson Yards project won the Project of the Year award from CoreNet.
Long Beach Airport received a Project Achievement Award for the new Ticketing Lobby from the Construction Management Association of America Southern California Chapter (CMAASC). What an amazing honor! Syska was proud to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services.
The Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Center at 45 Rivington Street won the Association of Medical Family Professionals (AMFP) NYC Project of the Year over $50M.
The Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) – Helena Theurer Pavilion was named ENR’s NY Best Healthcare Project! Syska Hennessy provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, fire alarm and life safety, ICT, and architectural lighting services for the new state-of-the-art surgical and intensive care tower.
Syska Hennessy proudly celebrates the outstanding achievements of Michelle Galindez (Director of Marketing & Communications), MaryAnn Hay (Director of Architectural Lighting), and Vicki Hobson (Director of Human Resources). Joshua Fluecke, Senior Principal and Director of Critical Facilities, participated in a session titled “How much can the industry really diversify its supply chain” at DCD Connect Silicon Valley 2023 on June 26th. Speakers discussed what they are doing to overcome supply chain challenges and to what extent the industry can realistically diversify its supply chain.
John Bilotta, Principal, participated in a panel titled “Designing Life Sciences: Wet Lab, GMP & Office Space” at the New York Life Sciences & Biotech Conference on Thursday, July 27th. The panel was developed with tenants and market trends in mind.
Robert Fagnant, Associate Partner, was on a panel discussion titled “Office to Lab Conversions” at the Los Angeles Life Sciences Summit on September 7th, which focused on innovation, repositioning, and adaptive reuse.
Andrew Krebs, Associate Partner, moderated a panel at DICE Midwest. The discussion titled “Blueprints of Success” focused on how design, construction, and engineering need to meet the demands of enterprise, wholesale and hyperscale in today’s environment.
Frank Sanchez, Senior Associate, presented “Water Management and Waterborne Bacterial Control Strategies” at the 2023 ASPE TechSymposium on October 1st.
Robert Fagnant, Associate Partner, was also part of a panel discussion titled “Strategies for the Decarbonization of Universities, Colleges, and Schools. Case Study: Southwestern College – Instructional Building” on September 28th. The AIA San Diego Annual Conference panel explored and identified the various elements of decarbonization and the steps we can take to create a path toward carbon neutrality.

Syska attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Mount Sinai Behavioral Health Center at 45 Rivington Street. We provided MEP, fire protection, fire alarm, architectural lighting design, and building management systems services for the renovation and reconfiguration of the existing building into a state-of-the-art behavioral health center.
In November, Gary Brennen (Chairman) and Cyrus Izzo (President & CEO) hosted the firm’s fireside chat, which included updates on business initiatives and milestones. In addition, Gary and Cyrus recognized employee accomplishments, office happenings, community outreach, and things to look forward to.
LAX's Midfield Satellite Concourse (MSC) South celebrated its groundbreaking. We are providing mechanical, plumbing, vertical transportation, and LEED energy modeling for the airport expansion.

In June for the second year in a row, Syska’s SENSE (Syska Employee Network of Support and Education) committee held fundraisers in support of the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Our offices supported their local houses through bake sales and various fundraisers, and by cooking meals and packing bags with needed supplies. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Kudos to Tim Burdge, named president-elect of the New York City chapter of the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). IFMA is the world’s largest and most widely recognized association for facility management professionals. Tim has been a member of IFMA since 2014 and has worked hard to promote excellence in not only facility management, but also in the wider A/E/C industry.
Los Angeles International Airport’s Consolidated Rent-A-Car project was awarded with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold accreditation from the U.S. Green Building Council. As part of the design-build team, Syska Hennessy provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering, along with sustainability, vertical transportation, IT/telecommunications, and security for this iconic project.

In August, our 2023 Engineer Development Training (EDT) Retreat took place in Washington, DC. EDT members are new career professionals to the firm. Our EDTs got the chance to meet and hear from Syska Hennessy’s practice leaders across the firm and visited a local area project site.
Hosted by our DEI advocacy group, SHAPE (Syska Hennessy Advocating for Professional Equality), celebrated its second annual SHAPE month. Each week celebrated a different theme honoring diversity and culture. Also, Syska Hennessy hosted a virtual panel discussion in collaboration with Mindr on celebrating cultural heritage in the workplace. Thank you to external panelists and Syska’s own Val Loh and Samer Nahas for sharing their experiences!
We’ve Moved! Chicago, that is!
Our Chicago office relocated to 10 South Riverside Plaza, Suite 1810 this past weekend. May it be the beginning of many great things to come!
Syska Hennessy organized an internal, virtual Hispanic & Latin History & Culture Trivia event hosted by Confetti in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month. Teams competed in categories including famous figures, significant historical events, and pop culture. It wasn’t just a game, but a fun way to celebrate and learn more about Hispanic & Latin American history and culture.
Our Los Angeles office achieved LEED certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
The New York Building Congress (NYBC) Infrastructure Action Council (IAC) met with House Minority Leader, the Hon. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) to focus on the Building Infrastructure Law (BIL). Syska Hennessy’s Cyrus Izzo, President & CEO, and other IAC members are trying to make a difference and move the needle.
