A few words from Gary and Cyrus

It’s hard to believe that the end of the year is fast approaching. Although 2022 has presented many challenges, they are outweighed by the positives that keep our business thriving.

We cover some of the positives in this issue of Connections. For instance, we present our work at LAX’S ConRAC (Consolidated Rent-a-Car) facility, a P3 project. We talk about machine learning and how it applies to what we do. We also offer some suggestions on planning for smart buildings: Hint – think about the end-users, the real people who will use the space. But don’t take it from us, read the article!

And now for an elevator pitch: Don’t miss our article about the work of our vertical transportation group on the new Audrey Irmas Pavilion in Los Angeles.

In every issue, we present an article related to DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion). This time Syska went outside of our own offices to talk about this topic with David Burchfield, the president of Burch Energy Services.

Also in this issue, we say goodbye to two amazing colleagues who are retiring: Jim Regan and John Moran. Our team interviewed John recently to talk about his career journey, and it’s an impressive one.

We couldn’t refrain from alerting readers to an important milestone in 2023: Our 95th year in business. We look forward to celebrating this anniversary by building upon our long history, driving advances in engineering, and working with our employees, our business partners, clients, colleagues to design a world that is better for all.

We thank you for taking the time to read this issue. Happy Holidays from all of us at Syska.
