Gearing up for our 95th Anniversary
Most people get excited by the dawn of a new year, but we’re really excited about it for 2023. This is the year Syska turns 95! In preparation for this anniversary, we looked back at the special Connections issue we published for our 90th anniversary.

So much has happened in the intervening years, including, of course, a global pandemic with long-term effects on business and societal norms.
Yet some things stay the same year after year, global pandemic or not. We realized this when we reread one of the articles in the 90th anniversary issue of Connections. This article, which covered Syska’s history, noted that in the 1940s, the firm designed solar-powered domestic heating systems for two hotels in Brazil. Solar energy remains a priority today: We incorporate it into every project where it’s feasible. And we have a thriving sustainability practice that specializes in energy conservation.
We continue to work with many of the same clients we worked with in the years that followed World War II. One of our existing government clients is a good example. We originally provided engineering services for the construction of its New York headquarters. Since then, we’ve completed numerous projects for the organization as it has modernized its facility and expanded its footprint.
Our global capabilities have grown significantly since 1939, when the firm took on its first international project in Australia. Today we have completed several projects around the globe we have two international locations in Shanghai and Dubai.
On the one hand, we’ve come a long way since 1928, when Adolph Syska and John Hennessy opened a small office with six drafting tables. Today we have 500 professionals in 20 offices around the world. We have many more technologies and tools at our disposal. (Check out Syska Innovations!) On the other hand, like Syska and Hennessy, we’re pursuing one overarching goal: to create exceptional environments by engineering a world that is usable and accessible for all.
Keep your eye out for our special 95th anniversary issue and announcements of commemorative activities. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you.
