Syska Snippets

As in previous issues of Connections, we’ve compiled brief summaries of the notable developments at Syska. Here are the latest:

A Bit of Boasting

In April, we were notified of a major honor: Syska’s New York office was named ENR New York’s Design Firm of the Year for 2021. Editor Eydie Cubarrubia announced the award on ENR New York’s web site and discussed several factors that led to the selection of Syska for the honor. She mentioned a 21% increase in revenue from New York and New Jersey, several healthcare projects designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Syska’s work on BlackRock’s new offices at Hudson Yards in Manhattan, and our efforts to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion. Keep your eyes out for ENR’s full profile of the New York office to be published in May.

Speaking of ENR, the publication named Long Beach Civic Center, for which Syska served as the MEP engineer, as Southern California’s Project of the Year. You can read about that project here.

George Hachem

Nick Caronna

Spotlight on the Southeast

Our increasing focus on life sciences and the Southeast Region has led to expanded roles for George Hachem and Nick Caronna, both of whom are based in our Raleigh office. George, an associate principal, will lead our life sciences practice nationally. Meanwhile, Nick, who is an associate partner, will serve as the site leader of the Raleigh office.

Recent Promotions

No issue of Connections would be complete without a round-up of senior-level promotions. Here are the latest ones. In March, Syska promoted 77 employees across the U.S., including six professionals to the level of associate partner. They are:

Brendan Caroll (New York)

Andrew Krebs (Chicago)

Christopher Lay (Washington, D.C.)

Sam Mahdavian (Los Angeles)

Kimball Shahrockhi (Raleigh)

Ryan Taylor (Dallas)

Congratulations to them and to the other 71 who were promoted. All of them helped Syska succeed during the challenging environment of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are immensely grateful for their contributions.
